MRU clinicals for nurses living in Connecticut
Connecticut nurses can enroll in MRU's online FNP, PMHNP and AGACNP tracks, the RN-to-BSN and the leadership MSN, since the state belongs to SARA. The newest change is on the license side: since 1 October 2025, Connecticut has been a participating state in the Nurse Licensure Compact.

MRU programs open from Connecticut
For Connecticut, MRU's NC-SARA licensure table shows "Meets" beside FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP. MRU's catalog takes a narrower line, committing to licensure requirements in Florida alone and pointing out-of-state students to their home board first. Here that is the Board of Examiners for Nursing, which sits within the Department of Public Health.

Connecticut's rules for out-of-state programs, and whom they reach
The scope of Connecticut's nursing regulations is programs that lead graduates to licensure (Regs. Conn. State Agencies 20-90-46). For an out-of-state program of that kind, 20-90-59 grants "deemed approved" status on three conditions: its home board has approved it, it satisfies Connecticut's RN curriculum rule, and licensure standards in its own state are similar or higher. The regulation states no separate application to Connecticut.
What attaches when an out-of-state program uses Connecticut agencies
- Ratios under 20-90-48(a)(2): no more than two students per preceptor, 16 precepted students per faculty member, and 10 direct-care students per clinical faculty member.
- Written contracts with each clinical agency, under 20-90-48(b).
- On-site clinical faculty holding an active Connecticut RN license, a bachelor's and a master's degree (one in nursing) and experience in their teaching area.
- Under 20-90-51(f), a preceptor for advanced-level students needs two years in the role or specialty, a bachelor's in nursing, and an active RN license from Connecticut or from the state where the precepting takes place.
None of these provisions addresses post-licensure or APRN programs directly, so how far they reach MRU's graduate students is MRU's call. Check with the Office of Academic Affairs before you finalize a Connecticut preceptor.
Collaboration first, then full practice
In AANP's terms Connecticut is full practice, yet an NP reaches it only after a collaboration period with a physician lasting a minimum of three years and 2,000 hours. A newly licensed NP you approach may still be inside that period, so a collaborating physician is part of the picture. About 1.17 million people lived in Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford in 2025, where you find UConn Health, Trinity Health Of New England and Hartford HealthCare. New Haven, about 579,000, has Yale New Haven Health. The former Nuvance hospitals in the Bridgeport-Stamford-Danbury metro (about 978,000), including Danbury Hospital, are now run by Northwell Health, based in New York. MRU names none of them as a clinical partner.
Your license now that Connecticut is in the Compact
Since 1 October 2025, RN students may practice in Connecticut on a Connecticut license or on a multistate license from their Compact home state. If Connecticut is your home state, a Connecticut multistate license also meets the DNP's Florida-or-Compact admission condition, so check that yours is marked multistate.

Questions MRU students ask
Does MRU have to apply to Connecticut before I do clinicals there?
Connecticut's regulations state no separate application for out-of-state programs; they treat home-state-approved licensure programs as deemed approved if Connecticut's standards are met. Those rules are written for programs preparing people for licensure and say nothing specific about APRN programs, so confirm with MRU whether it has taken any step for Connecticut.
My Connecticut license was issued before October 2025. Is it multistate?
Not necessarily. Connecticut's participation in the Compact began on 1 October 2025, so a license issued earlier started life as single-state. Check its current status with the Connecticut Department of Public Health, especially if you plan to use it for MRU's DNP, which needs a Florida or Compact license.
Can I use a preceptor across the line in New York?
The site's state sets the licensing rules. A practice in Danbury or Stamford is in Connecticut, so Connecticut rules apply; one across the line in New York falls under New York's rules. MRU's residency rule is about where you live, not where you train, but ask MRU before planning hours outside Connecticut.
