MRU's online nursing programs for Idaho residents
Idaho residents meet MRU's SARA residency condition, which opens the MSN-FNP, the post-master's NP certificates, RN-to-BSN study and the leadership MSN. Idaho's rules speak more to you than to MRU: if you are an RN in a nationally accredited APRN program, you may practice at the APRN level whenever the curriculum calls for it.

Your MRU choices from Idaho
MRU's NC-SARA licensure disclosure includes Idaho and marks FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP "Meets". The catalog, though, commits to Florida's licensure requirements alone and tells students outside Florida to consult their home board before enrolling. In Idaho that is the Board of Nursing, a board housed in the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses, known as DOPL.

What Idaho's rules say about APRN students from other states
Nothing in Idaho's rules deals specifically with clinicals arranged by programs based in other states. Idaho Code 54-1406 and IDAPA 24.34.01.150 cover the approval of nursing programs offered within Idaho. For schools located elsewhere, the Board's page has an "Out of State/Online Nursing Programs" heading that directs them to email its licensing staff about requirements or approval. That conversation is MRU's.
You are covered directly by two provisions. IDAPA 24.34.01.100.12.a allows you to practice as an APRN if that practice is integral to the curriculum, provided your APRN program is nationally accredited, you are matriculated in it, and you hold a current Idaho RN license or the privilege to practice in Idaho. Separately, Idaho Code 54-1412 exempts students of approved programs who perform functions incident to formal instruction. MRU's master's and post-master's programs are ACEN-accredited.
Idaho's APRN-student provision depends on your RN license or privilege being current in Idaho. Keep it active for every clinical day.
Preceptors at or above your level
Under HP-BON-Education 1, a Board education policy adopted on 10 April 2024, a clinical preceptor in any nursing program needs a license matching or exceeding the level the student is working toward, which for an NP student means at least an APRN. The same policy expects an Idaho APRN license of faculty who lead APRN role and population courses, and a current Idaho RN license of faculty who teach nursing courses. The faculty points are MRU's to weigh; MRU's preceptor rules are in its handbook, summarized in MRU's preceptor requirements.
AANP puts Idaho among its full practice states. The Boise City metro, about 864,000 people in 2025, is home to St. Luke's Health System and Saint Alphonsus Health System. Coeur d'Alene, about 192,000, has Kootenai Health, and Idaho Falls (about 174,000) and Twin Falls (about 124,000) are the other larger metros. MRU publishes no link to any of them. Idaho has no preceptor tax credit or grant in the data we checked.
License and clearance for Idaho clinicals
With the Compact in force in Idaho since 19 January 2018, an Idaho multistate license gives you the practice privilege the APRN-student rule refers to, and it meets the DNP's Florida-or-Compact condition.
MRU's own checks travel with you: American Data Bank clearance, a fingerprinted Level II background check, and an individual liability policy documented at least 15 days before your externship begins. One needs planning from Idaho. MRU's catalog requires immunization proof from a Florida-licensed healthcare provider and does not say how distant students should meet it, so bring it up with the Office of Academic Affairs early. Questions MRU students ask
Does MRU need Idaho Board approval before my clinicals?
No Idaho rule addresses clinical placements by out-of-state programs as such; the Board points schools based elsewhere to its licensing staff with questions about requirements or approval. That is MRU's conversation to have. Put the question to the Office of Academic Affairs before you commit to a start date.
Can an RN precept my MRU RN-to-BSN hours in Idaho?
An RN-to-BSN student is not preparing for a new license, so under Idaho's policy, which wants preceptors licensed at or above the student's target level, an RN preceptor meets the test. MRU's 135 hours in NUR4269, NUR4679 and NUR4689 use indirect supervision in a preceptorship model. MRU does not say publicly who arranges the preceptor, so ask. See the RN-to-BSN.
Does Idaho set a minimum number of years for my preceptor?
The Idaho policy points we found are about license level, and we found no minimum years of experience. Florida's preceptor rule sets none either. MRU's own qualification rules, which may say more, sit in the handbook you reach through the MRU PORTAL, so read them before you ask a newer NP.
Does Idaho's APRN-student rule cover MRU's DNP?
Not directly. That provision is written for RNs matriculated in APRN programs, and MRU's DNP is a leadership degree that does not prepare graduates for APRN licensure. Its 765 practice hours are indirect, logged in myevaluation.com and guided by an assigned DNP Project team mentor, so what matters in Idaho is that your RN license or privilege stays active.
