MRU's NP programs from Kansas: what KSBN checks and when
Kansas asks nothing of out-of-state online APRN programs before you enroll. The review comes afterward, once you graduate and apply for a Kansas APRN license, and for anyone admitted after 1 March 2025 it looks for at least 750 role-specialty clinical hours.

The MRU program list for Kansans
MRU enrolls Kansans because Kansas is in SARA, and its NC-SARA disclosure puts a "Meets" against FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP for the state. The catalog is warier: Florida is the only state whose licensure rules MRU says it meets, and everyone else is sent to their home regulator: for you, KSBN, the Kansas State Board of Nursing.

KSBN reviews your program at licensure, not enrollment
Online APRN programs based outside Kansas need no formal Board approval before Kansans enroll in them, according to KSBN's guidance. When a graduate applies for Kansas APRN licensure, KSBN looks for:
- advanced pathophysiology, advanced health assessment and advanced pharmacology, with no fewer than 3 credit hours in each
- at least 45 credit hours and national accreditation
- role-specialty clinical hours of 500 or more if you were admitted before 1 March 2025, and 750 or more if admitted after
MRU's PMHNP (765) and AGACNP (810) totals clear 750. The FNP is the one to watch: MRU prints no clinical total, and MSN6400 promises only a 180-hour minimum. Our own reading of MRU's 45-hours-per-credit rule gives about 765, but that is a calculation, not an MRU figure. If you plan to practice in Kansas, ask MRU how your FNP hours will be documented. On the accreditation point, MRU's MSN and NP certificates carry ACEN accreditation.
Kansas APRN preceptors and where students look
AANP puts Kansas in its full-practice group. KSBN expects a preceptor for Kansas clinicals to complete an orientation, put their name to an agreement and be licensed in Kansas as an APRN in the role you are studying (K.A.R. 60-17-104). For an NP course, then, you need a Kansas-licensed APRN in the NP role. MRU layers its own approval on top; MRU's preceptor page explains what is public.
In 2025 the Kansas City metro held about 938,000 Kansans, with roughly 664,000 in the Wichita area, 233,000 in Topeka and 136,000 in Manhattan. Systems that come up for NP students include Stormont Vail Health, Wesley Healthcare (HCA's Wichita system), The University of Kansas Health System and Ascension Via Christi. We cite them to show the landscape, not as MRU sites. No Kansas preceptor incentive turned up in our research.
License and clearance for a Kansas clinical
Per KSBN, you practice at a Kansas clinical site as an APRN student on an RN license that Kansas recognizes, meaning a Kansas single-state license or a multistate one, under K.S.A. 65-1124. Kansas joined the Compact on 1 July 2019, so a Kansas multistate license also satisfies the DNP's Florida-or-Compact condition.
One MRU rule catches Kansans off guard: your immunization proof has to come from a provider holding a Florida license, and its public pages do not say how distance students manage that. Ask early, alongside your American Data Bank clearance. More in MRU clinicals outside Florida.

Questions MRU students ask
Do MRU's FNP hours meet Kansas's 750-hour check?
MRU does not publish an FNP clinical-hour total, so there is no printed number to compare. Applying MRU's conversion of 45 clinical hours to a credit, the four clinical courses come to about 765, but MSN6400's description says only "a minimum of 180". Ask MRU how it will certify your hours to KSBN before you finish; the FNP hours page shows the arithmetic.
Can my preceptor practice on the Missouri side of Kansas City?
A Missouri site falls under Missouri's rules, not KSBN's. Missouri is a Compact state, so your Kansas multistate license covers you there, and NPs work under a collaborative practice arrangement with a physician. Missouri's Board publishes no filing rule for out-of-state programs that we found. Tell MRU before planning those hours; see our Missouri page.
Will MRU faculty have to visit my Kansas site?
Not under Kansas rules. According to KSBN, faculty site visits during clinicals are not required, online faculty need no Kansas license, and a faculty member who does come to the site attends in the capacity of a visitor or lay person. MRU publishes nothing about faculty site visits, and your end-of-course evaluation carries a clinical instructor's signature alongside your preceptor's.
Can an out-of-state NP precept me if I train in Kansas?
Not for a Kansas site, by KSBN's guidance: clinical supervision of APRN students there requires a Kansas APRN license in the student's role. A Missouri-licensed NP working across the line would be precepting in Missouri instead. MRU still approves whoever you choose.
