Taking MRU's nursing programs while living in Nevada
Nevada is a SARA member, which satisfies MRU's residency rule for its online NP, RN-to-BSN and leadership programs. Clinicals take more care: Nevada is outside the Nurse Licensure Compact, and a Board rule bars internet-delivered programs from giving clinical instruction in Nevada without Board approval.

Can you enroll from Nevada?
Yes, for the online programs. MRU's NC-SARA disclosure marks FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP as "Meets" in Nevada, while the catalog backs licensure requirements only in Florida and directs out-of-state students to their own board, here the Nevada State Board of Nursing. Read the DNP row twice: its license rule names Florida or Compact states, and Nevada is neither.

NAC 632.703: Nevada's rule for online programs
When any portion of a nursing program happens in Nevada, NAC 632.703 requires the school to report to the Board, showing it is accredited or approved and complies with chapter 632, and to send the Board yearly school reports. Without Board approval, an internet-based or otherwise nontraditional program cannot offer clinical instruction in Nevada. Its faculty who teach in the state need Nevada licenses.
The rule draws no line between graduate and pre-licensure programs. On 1 September 2026 the Board updated its roster of schools from other states approved to run only the clinical portion of their programs in Nevada; all of the listed programs are ADN or BSN pre-licensure ones, which tells you nothing either way about graduate NP programs. Full practice, with a Schedule II waiting period
AANP rates Nevada a full-practice state, with one condition: Schedule II prescribing waits until the NP has logged 2,000 clinical hours or two years in clinical practice, unless a physician-approved protocol covers it. Precepting is also shaped by a 2005 Board practice decision. Under it, every student clinical experience is directed by faculty, no preceptor may oversee more than two students at once, the preceptor must be present on site in person, and the program must provide preceptors with orientation plus written objectives. MRU's preceptor rules sit on top of that.
Las Vegas-Henderson-North Las Vegas held about 2.41 million people in 2025, Reno about 579,000 and Carson City about 59,000. The large systems in those metros are Renown Health in Reno, The Valley Health System, Sunrise Health System (part of HCA Healthcare), University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, and Dignity Health, with hospitals in Las Vegas and Henderson. None is known to take MRU students.
No Compact, so a Nevada license
With no Compact legislation pending in Nevada, a multistate license issued elsewhere gives you no privilege to practice here. Under a Board practice decision, anyone who cares for patients located in Nevada needs a Nevada license, and education that puts a nurse in direct contact with patients counts. For MRU clinicals in Nevada, plan on an active Nevada RN license.
The same gap touches the DNP, whose admission rule asks for an active RN license issued by Florida or by a Compact state. A Nevada license is neither. If the DNP interests you, ask MRU admissions whether a Florida license held alongside your Nevada one would satisfy it.

Questions MRU students ask
Will my multistate license from a Compact state work for Nevada clinicals?
No. Nevada is not a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact, which means a multistate license from a member state carries no privilege to practice here. Under the Board's practice decision on patient care, anyone who cares for patients in Nevada, including nursing students with direct patient contact, must hold a Nevada license. Apply well before your first shift.
What is the student limit for one Nevada preceptor?
Under the Board's 2005 practice decision on precepted clinical experiences, the cap is two, and the preceptor must be on site. If your preceptor already hosts students from another school, ask how many overlap with your rotation dates. The decision also expects the program to give the preceptor an orientation and written objectives.
Does Nevada's Schedule II limit matter for my FNP clinicals?
A little. Until an NP reaches 2,000 hours of clinical experience, or two years of it, Nevada does not let them prescribe Schedule II drugs, except under a protocol approved by a physician. Even so, a newer NP can still teach assessment, diagnosis and most prescribing in MSN5700; an experienced one simply shows you more controlled-substance prescribing.
Is MRU's AGACNP certificate workable from Las Vegas or Reno?
It is online except for a skills and simulation weekend of three days on MRU's Miami Springs campus in semester I, which you must pass. The 810 acute-care hours usually mean hospital preceptors, and NAC 632.703 speaks to clinical instruction wherever it happens, so settle MRU's position with the Board before you approach any Las Vegas or Reno hospital.
