MRU nursing programs for Nebraska residents
Every MRU nursing program delivered online, from the MSN-FNP to the RN-to-BSN, takes Nebraska residents. Post-licensure programs sit outside what Nebraska's Board of Nursing regulates, so no Board approval stands between an MRU graduate student and a Nebraska clinical site, though its guidance on faculty licensure is worth raising with MRU.

MRU from Nebraska: the short list
MRU's NC-SARA licensure disclosure records its FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP tracks as meeting Nebraska's requirements. The older catalog wording is narrower: MRU speaks for Florida licensure only and sends out-of-state students to their home board, which in Nebraska is the Board of Nursing within the Department of Health and Human Services' Licensure Unit.

A Board that leaves graduate programs alone
According to Nebraska DHHS, Board approval applies to pre-licensure programs offered to residents of Nebraska, and a program leading to the NCLEX that educates students in Nebraska has to contact the Board. Post-licensure programs, online or otherwise, fall outside its reach, so there is no Nebraska approval step for MRU's NP certificates, MSN-FNP, RN-to-BSN or leadership degrees.
Two parts of the DHHS guidance still touch you. Because DHHS adopts NCSBN's position that practice occurs at the student's location, faculty must hold a license for whatever state the student is in; for APRN students here, that means a Nebraska APRN license. DHHS adds that programs make preceptor arrangements with facilities directly, and that each post-licensure program decides its own preceptor qualifications. MRU keeps its version in a handbook that only enrolled students can open.

Full practice, after 2,000 supervised hours
In AANP's classification, Nebraska is full practice once an NP has put in 2,000 practice hours with a supervising provider. A newly certified Nebraska NP may still be inside that window. The rule is about their own practice rather than precepting, but ask a recent graduate where they stand before you put their name forward for MRU's approval.
Most Nebraskans live in two metros: Omaha, with about 887,000 people on the Nebraska side of a metro that passed one million in 2025, and Lincoln, at about 352,000. Grand Island adds about 78,000. The systems Nebraska NP students meet most often are Nebraska Medicine, CHI Health, Nebraska Methodist Health System, Bryan Health and Children's Nebraska; the last of these treats the infant-to-adolescent age range that MSN6150 covers. Naming them says nothing about whether any accepts MRU students.
License, Compact and the APRN board change
Nebraska has been a Compact state since 19 January 2018. A Nebraska multistate RN license lets you train at home or across state lines in other member states, and because it is issued by a Compact state it fits the DNP's license requirement. Nebraska has not enacted the APRN Compact.
One change to watch: up to June 2026, DHHS rosters showed the Board of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses as its own board. In the July and September 2026 rosters, the APRN, CNS and CNM members appear on the Board of Nursing instead. That points to a merger, but no statute confirming it was found, so check with the DHHS Licensure Unit before relying on either board's name.

Does the Nebraska Board have to approve MRU before my clinicals?
No. Nebraska DHHS places post-licensure programs, online or delivered in any other way, outside the Board's regulation, so graduate NP, RN-to-BSN and leadership clinicals have no Board approval step. The Board's approval role covers pre-licensure programs. MRU's approval of your preceptor and the site's own onboarding are the gates you will actually meet.
Can a Nebraska NP still in the 2,000-hour transition precept me?
Nebraska's rule governs the NP's own path to full practice, and DHHS leaves preceptor qualifications for post-licensure programs to the school. That makes MRU's rules the deciding ones, and they are printed in the student handbook rather than on mru.edu. Share the NP's license, certification and experience with MRU and let it decide.
How do I cover the PMHNP hour mix in Nebraska?
MRU's PMHNP certificate needs 765 clinical hours: 115 with children and adolescents, 150 of psychotherapy and 500 across the lifespan. One Omaha or Lincoln practice may not see all three groups, so ask each preceptor which populations and therapy work they offer, then map the hours across the three PMHNP clinical courses before signing anyone up.
Is MRU's DNP open to me with a Nebraska license?
Yes. MRU's DNP admission rule names an RN license from Florida or a Compact state, active and unencumbered, and Nebraska has been in the Compact since 2018.
